CITYA

CITYA is an international art project that will occur every three years as a long-term exchange among cities through art institutions and organizations. CITYA (City as a Medium) was inspired by social theorist Henri Lefebvre’s concepts between the city and art. Conceived by Hong Kong Baptist University Professor Janet Fong four years ago, several curators Kang Li, Cecilia Casorati, Miriam Mirolla, Laura Scaringella, Kati Ots, Juliana Chanin, and myself began the CITYA discussion when movement was free and global. The pandemic transformed the concept into how humanity resides within a “city” for the majority of time.

Participating CITYA institutions and partners include: Academy of Visual Arts at Hong Kong Baptist University, Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing, UC Berkeley Extension, Estonia Academy of Arts Tallinn, Arts Academy of Rome, University of Macau, 1a space, and Videotage.
