CLEVELAND
The 2019 Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA) teacher residency explored my father’s life, spoken word, and poetry through a series of abstract animations and drawings. In 1981, I illustrated Mike Balisle’s Poems For A Gentle Person poetry book. The experience highlighted the relationship between poet father as inspiration and daughter as artist. The artworks morphed my father’s audio and rhythmic patterns into pure line and form.
